this and that

hey, why is it so hard to cut out coffee these days??

realising it's only two more weeks until we leave on our Indian journey, I should actually get up and get things done, but oh, there is little things I need to share today, otherwise it will be next year until I do so :-)

well, most important I finished "something"! oh, it makes me proud to have finished a knitted piece after such a long time... I had all this things started over the last couple of years but nothing ever came to an end, but this did.

I did not follow any instructions, as usual, I just sat down had an idea, and started. so I am even more proud that something came out of it. of course my ideas not always work, fair enough, I hardly ever think it through, but well, that's just the way I am and the way I enjoy doing things. and I am happy and grateful to have the chance to follow my ideas, just like that!

there is some more knitting going on around here and I am almost finished on it...more once it's done, I just shouldn't get too excited ;-)

so besides all that knitting (a Harry Potter movie is not that scary when focusing on your knitting) I had some good cooking going, although I am trying to keep the cooking down as I just end up eating it all...
so, there was my yeast-free pizza - I simply make a dough out of flour, salt, oil and water! as we prefer the thin crust anyway, it makes no difference :-)

having left over bananas I usually make the same banana-bread recipe. it's great but I just wanted to try something new last week...I came across a coconut-banana-cake that I topped with chocolate and because the girls and I love it, I baked it in heart shape, just for fun... as a result I had a man sitting at the dinner table thinking over what special occasion he might have forgotten ;-)

the girls and I started on Christmas crafting...

uh, and not to forget last nights "Moussaka"!

November

today I remembered how I used to love (and hate) the early morning hours of November days...especially when I was still working in Austria... leaving the house really early, driving to work and sometimes I had to drive so slow due to the thick fog that surrounded me...some days the fog might lift until lunchtime, but not always...still I could see all the goodness behind it... in a way, that's how November needs to be (at least for me)...foggy, dark and cold...

my thoughts about "November", something I wrote in 2003...

du bringst ihn - den Sonnenschein
erhellst mein Gemüt
machst dich zu einem Monat der Freude
es sind die versteckten Strahlen der Sonne
ich kann sie sehen
da blitzen sie und dort
sie kitzeln meine Nase
wir sollten beginnen sie wahrzunehmen
und uns an der Nebeldecke erfreuen.

and yes, that's what I really like about it - the hidden goodness, the positivity behind things...the sun is always there, it's sometimes just hard to see...
but it's so much easier to only see the dark, closed surface of things and just forget to take a closer look. the look behind - letting the light shine bright!

with my body sending "signs" at the moment, that, well, something is not quite well in the way things go, I slowly start and try to see the goodness behind it...and no, it's not easy to see it like that every day, but I am trying to.
taking more time for myself, slowing my yoga practise down and with that deepen it to really listen to what I (my body) needs right now. I have not quite figured it out yet, but it also needs a bit of patience and trust... two things that can fade in between, especially with the November weather trying to hide things even better ;-)

but I am on it...lighting a few more candles, getting the Christmas decoration out bit by bit, making tea and curling up on the sofa, taking it all in...it will lead somewhere, I just don't know yet...

through my head at 1.45pm

there is nothing cooked, nothing cleaned up, nothing prepared for the days ahead...

a yoga class taught, a friend met for coffee, a shopping trip made, ten minutes taken - just for me...

there is the wish for a quiet afternoon with the girls...
...some crafting, as we need birthday presents tomorrow!
...the hope of practicing yoga while the girls do craft!
...some reading in between and curling up on the sofa!
...a healthy dinner!

later...
...getting some work done before I go to bed with a great book I got recommended from a friend...

now...on with it...letting go of all that expectations and with that...all of it might come true :-)

how has your day been?

gratitude week - day three

joining gratitude week 1012

... Nutella being out of stock (I'd buy it for the kids but end up eating it myself)!
... people asking to come for a yoga class!
... a yellow shirt and jumper, I found on my little shopping trip!
... 10min in a crowded coffee shop in an even more crowded shopping centre, sitting and writing down my thoughts!

right now...

... I am welcoming November days here in Cairo, that almost have the "real" November feeling. the fog and cold and grey November days I remember from Austria...

... I am teaching quite a lot of yoga. I enjoy watching people ease into it and opening up for a change, wherever that will lead

... I am trying to keep my own practice going and make it to as many classes as possible to get energy back

... I so enjoy a little girl that is eager to practice reading and writing and oh, just so happy to learn

... I know it's early but I can't wait to bring the spirit of Christmas into our house, bake some wonderful cookies, curl up on the sofa with my loved ones, light a candle and take it all in

... I am trying to stay healthy!

... I am so grateful for a big girl in my house that knows her Mama so well and comes round for a spontaneous hug, just because she knows it's needed

... I am happy for a man that keeps up with it all, showing me he is there, no matter what

... I should get going  - enjoy what ever it is you're doing/thinking RIGHT NOW
...

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - a few words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

I realised it is this weeks "moment" when I was right in the middle, no camera, no need to take a picture - as no picture could tell what lies in this moment (also no words can, but I still want to share a few)

we were reading a book together. yes, simple as it is - the whole family, all four of us, on the sofa, Daddy reading, the girls and Mummy cuddling - a bedtime story...
